CHRISTMAS RACES REPORT

Boxing Day Brass Monkey Pursuit

A forecast that looked like it would spoil the day may be a reason that numbers were down on this normally busy day at the Club but surprisingly the wind was ok at 6 knots so the 20 boats that started were in for a good race.

The juniors were away first and Jess Powell and Kat Gunn were looking quick in the Feva for the majority of the race but we’re overtaken in the final minutes by Jeremy Davey and Martin Huett in a FF15 who took First place.
2nd Greg Irish, ILCA 7
3rd Pete Slater & Jan Elfring

Draycote Double

A popular format for an extra day of club racing when the opportunity arises, 2 handicap races back to back around a trapezoid course.

A steady 10 knots from the east, 22 boats started on one start and the racing was close all around the course. In both races the faster boats completed 3 laps while the slower boats managed 2.

Results were calculated and Jeremy Davy and Martin Huett took the win, with Rich Pye in 2nd place in the Aero 7, and completing the podium Millie Irish and Katy Byne in the 420.

New Years Day Pursuit

The New Year kicked off in style with a perfect breeze and the best turn out of the series with 39 boats. We were pleased to welcome a couple of visitors, one of which was to nearly take the win.

Course was set and racing underway, Toppers lead the way and stayed out front but couldn’t hold off the charge of the lLCA 6 sailed by Jon Emmett and Aero 5 sailed by Mike Wood who looked like they were set to take the win. The course didn’t appear to suit the spinnaker boats but did suit the catamarans, in the last minutes the 3 Sprint 15s out were making good ground and Ed Dalton steamed through to take the race win, taking the series win and club champion title 2021/22.

WINDSURF FLEET CAPTAIN

There has been an established, active windsurfing fleet at Draycote for a long time. Until very recently the windsurfing members were represented at both fleet captains’ meetings, and at committee level by a fleet member (Miles). Miles has relocated away from the midlands and has resigned his positions.

I’m really keen for the windsurfing members to continue to be represented within the club.  This is important to give a voice to the windsurfing fleet and allow individual issues to be raised and resolved at the appropriate level.  It would be great for the fleet if you had a representative, I’m more than happy to discuss this.  In the first instance we’re looking for a member to be the fleet captain.  There are only two fleet captains’ meetings a year, the commitment is not onerous! If you can do this, please email office@draycotewater.co.uk

NON-RACING MEMBERS

Similarly so! We know that racing is not the be-all-and-end-all to sailing at Draycote. We do not have formal representation from non-racing members. In the past they’ve tended to be represented via their individual fleet, be that menagerie or established fleet. But, as with the windsurfers, I think it would be a step forward to have formal representation from the non-racing members. Cruising, casual sailing, call it what you will, is just an important part of the club’s overall activities as racing. If you think you could be the person to represent the non-racers please let me know. Email us at office@draycotewater.co.uk
