July Newsletter

Summer is here and time to make the most of your sailing opportunities.

The water is open every weekday evening to 8.30pm till the 24th July (8pm after that but 6pm weekends), so why not come down and have a sail after work! There is of course also Wednesday evening racing and the popular Friday evening social sailing and barbecue.

Have a read of what has been happening at the Club and what’s ahead:

Looking back
STW marquee
‘Severn Trent Water’ conference
As you know the senior management of Severn Trent, our landlords, held a major conference here at the Club and around Draycote Water last week. 300 delegates attended the Club each day for 3 days and thankfully it was a great success.

Although this did have some impact at the Club, members were still able to use the changing room facilities and a marquee was set up beside the clubhouse to provide the usual refreshments.

This obviously has provided us with additional income to the Club and has already lead to an increase in room hire bookings which is an area we are trying to promote to increase revenue for the Club.

Mid Summer Party and BBQ
On Wednesday evening of the same week as the ST conference we took the opportunity to hold our ‘Mid summer party and BBQ’. With the usual competitive club racing taking place, afterwards the members were able to enjoy the glorious weather outside with the marquee, BBQ and guest beers brought in from ‘Rugby on Tap’. Lots of fun and laughter had by all!

RYA Summer of Sailing
Following the Club’s successful Open Day back in May, the RYA is helping to promote sailing in the Midlands by holding its own “Try Sailing for Free” on Saturday 2nd July.

While this is an RYA initiative, we as a club stand to be the main beneficiaries, so let’s see what we can do to make it a success. It will follow the format of our Open Day (taking visitors for boat rides and showing them around the club) so we will need lots of help.

Please contact Jeremy jnatkins@btinternet.com if you are able to offer some time between 10am and 4pm on the day.

Get Racing
Our ever popular Get Racing for newcomers to the dark arts of club racing runs again on Sunday 3rd July.

With its own start and a coach boat to help you find your way around the course and offer advice, there is no easier way to ease yourself into the fun and excitement of racing. Just turn up on the patio, preferably rigged and changed, for a briefing at 10am.
All Inclusive Boat Hire Package
Don’t want the hassle of owning and maintaining a boat? Do you want to try out different boats before deciding which one is for you? If you think you will want to sail more than 15 times a year (not much more than once a month) then our new all-inclusive boat package could be for you.

For £150 for a single-hander or £225 for a double hander, you can have your pick of the club boats for cruising or racing. Our boat hiring facility includes some 30 youngsters’ and adult boats.

To sign up for this package click on Annual Boat Hire or contact Dave or Matt on 01788 814418 or Andrea in the office on 01788 811153.
