Late August Newsletter

All the news for August & Autumn…

We are fast approaching the end of the summer season and it’s been a bit of a whirl wind with so much going on at the club and with our members out and about.

Thanks must go to all those that have traveled to races and represented Draycote. I was amazed to see how many classes have been involved for both junior and adults:

Rs Tera and Feva Nationals & Worlds, Optimists, Topper and 420 Nationals, RS Aero, Solos, Fireballs, Mirrors, Merlins, Miracle, Lasers, Sprint 15s and more to come with the FF15 worlds in the coming months.

At home we have been busy with our the RYA summer courses training nearly 150 youngsters at different levels, which included being a part of Princess Anne’s visit on what can only be described as a damp but fantastic day.

Looking forward, we are hosts to the Optimists for their late summers next weekend and will be welcoming up to 200 boats. Please expect the club to be buzzing with activity, as always club racing will be on on Sunday and with the Optimists on just one course we will still be blessed with plenty of room.

Autumn will see plenty of events on the lake so please keep an eye on the Calendar and let us now if you have any questions on the events, or information on how to be involved & what to expect.

HRH Princess Royal Visit

The visit from Princess Anne went very well despite the terrible weather, and a full write up of the event is HERE

Join us for the Air Ambulance Pursuit Race on bank holiday Monday, the 26th.  It’s free entry for DWSC club members with a donation to the Air Ambulance.  All of our Pursuit races are open to sailors from other clubs with a £10 entry plus the charitable donation.

Come and try an RS Aero on 8th September, we’ll have 3 boats with all 3 rigs.  This is a fast-growing fleet at Draycote and you can have a go for yourself.
Speak to Dave Rowe to book your place.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT RACING
The series finishes on the 4th September, and the last 2 evenings (28th August & 4th September) will have earlier starts of 18.30.

IMPROVER GROUPS & YOUTH & JUNIOR SESSIONS
Full service will resume in September. There’s lots of Y&J events coming up & we’ll be sending out more info shortly.

September 1st & October 6th are the last Get Racing – 6 in 60 sessions for this year.  If you’ve enjoyed having a go at racing over the summer then we encourage you to try the novice start of the main club fleet racing on a Sunday, and have a go!  Speak to Dave, Matt or Owen if you have any questions.
