Racing is at the heart of Draycote Water Sailing Club and it is very easy to get involved. If you have just come off a course or have just bought a boat and want to have a go but are a bit nervous about doing so then have a word with Dave in the shop, one of the Bosuns, one of the Instructors, or if you have a boat which is part of one of the established fleets then have a word with your fleet captain. Everyone wants to encourage you so you will find a warm welcome from whoever you ask.
On the first Sunday of every month (except December – March) we run a Get Racing session. This is for youths and novices to introduce them to racing gently. There is a briefing before the race (c. 10am on the patio), and then this group have their own start and a coach boat accompanies them round the course, offering help and advice. Club boats can be hired for free for Get Racing.
Meanwhile here is a bit of information that will be useful:
A Map of all the Marks used in the Races – click here . A hard copy to keep on your boat is also available from the office.
Sailing Instructions Worth a look through but you don’t need to know them off by heart to get started.
There are obviously rules involved in racing and most are listed on the RYA Website here. You can buy a booklet from Dave in the Shop and have a chat to an Instructor about which ones are relevant just to get you started.
