Racing Rules & Q&A About All Aspects of Sailing

To welcome the start of our extremely popular Wednesday evening sailing and to give everyone a chance to get up to speed with the rules on the race course we have organised a special event after the second Wednesday evening race.

On Wednesday 10th April there will be a talk entitled: “Rules: All the racer needs to know in 30 minutes”.
It will start at 8.30pm and, by definition, finish at 9.00pm.

After that, therer will be an hour’s Q&A session with the speaker which could cover more on the rules or any aspect of sailing, with our speaker having had intimate experience of the Olympics, Volvo Ocean Race and the governing of the sport both in the UK and worldwide.

The speaker will be Jeremy Atkin’s brother, Chris, who has quite a bit of experience on the racing rules
– Involved in the drafting of most of the recent rule changes
– International judge
– International jury for ISAF World Cup events and last Volvo Ocean Race
– Chief umpire for 2 World Team Racing Championships
– On RYA Rules Committee for many years

He also knows a bit about the sailing world more genereally:
– Currently an ISAF Vice President and on the ISAF Executive Committee running our sport worldwide
– Many years on RYA and ISAF Councils
– Multiple national champion
– Chairman of selectors for Team GBR sailing team for Beijing and London Olympics
– Chairman of ISAF Events Committee, covering period of London Olympics
– On Committee that selected the RSX windsurfer for the Olympics (so even windsurfers can ask him questions!)

So he should be able to respond to most questions you can think up!
