The Sunday series starts on the 29th March, this is the morning after the clocks change – don’t forget! Wednesday evenings start on the 1st April at 6:30pm.

I look forward to seeing you all on the water this summer!

Signing on Sheets & Series Sail Number introduction

No major updates here – please remember to use your series sail number to prevent any issues with results.

Signing off – Club Sailing Instructions - Rule 16.2

No sign off or retirement sheet will be printed out and provided, instead if you retire from a race you should sign off as in the example below.

Updates to OD Instructions

  1. The start line should be shortened after the final start to reduce the size of the gate to approximately half the length. This will make tracking boats laps and finishing easier.
  2. The shortened course flag will be on the committee boat and should be raised at the same time as shortening the course with the lights. This will improve visibility and prevent issues if there are equipment failures.
  3. Where conditions and participation permit, OD’s should discuss running a Windward-Leward course occasionally on Sunday Afternoons. This type of course is not suitable for a wide range of fast and slow boats so please check with Dave/Simon/Will/Matt if not sure.

GL Updates & Pursuit Series starts

At Draycote we the Great Lakes Handicap System. There have been some updates this year, more than usual and as such the pursuit race starts have changed for some classes.

With the Fast/Slow fleet split point set at 1025 please check which start to use for Sunday & Wednesday racing.

Please check your Pursuit Race start time begore the first race at Easter.

Missed fleet starts

If for any reason a fleet does not start on its allotted start time it must not start with or in between another fleet’s start. This has been an issue during the summer.

The fleet should send a representative to the OD boat, taking care to avoid interfering with any other starts to request that they start at the back of the sequence. Where no General Recall has happened, this would be on start 6 after the Slow Menagerie fleet have started.

The same applies to any fleet planning on starting after the main sequence for any reason – speak to the OD beforehand and let them know your plans.

If this does happen please also be courteous to the slower boats ahead of you, you probably aren’t actually racing them and most of the time its faster to avoid each other!
