Thank you to everyone who turned out for our recent AGM. This is the second year on a row that we have far exceeded quorum which is a positive change from a couple of post-Covid years with low turnouts.
There are a few changes to our Committee team with Christine Silver, Sian Clark, Robin Warren and Matthew Blackmur stepping down. We thank them for their contributions and support during their time on the Committee.
We welcome new committee members with Paula Irish, Julian Messing and Chris Avery all volunteering to come on board.
Each year at the AGM we present The Commodore’s Cup to a member who has significantly contributed to the Club.
We are pleased to award this to Christine Silver who has worked diligently on the committee for nearly 9 years.
Her research and applications for numerous grants has enabled us to fund projects such as the women’s changing room building work and renovation, and the installation of the solar panels. In addition to this, her years of experience in teaching have helped us develop policies for safeguarding, accessibility and inclusion.
This year we also awarded an Honorary Membership to Jon Hughes.
Jon has been a member since the early 1980s and spent numerous years on the Committee with some time as Rear Commodore Sail. He has been running our Youth & Junior groups for many years now with cheerful passion and gusto. He has been at the Club every Friday evening and Saturday morning for the Y&J groups, being an encouraging leader both to those new to sailing and to our older juniors in their race development.
He has previously received the Commodore’s Cup for his tireless work, as well as an RYA volunteers award presented to him by Princess Anne..
