Adult Sailing Courses

The RYA Adult Sailing combined levels 1 and 2 course is run over 4 days to give you a basic knowledge of sailing and to be capable of sailing without an instructor in good conditions.

  • Essential safety knowledge

You will also receive an RYA Start Sailing book which covers the course content as well as an RYA Logbook. Plus, a certificate upon successful completion of the course.

Who can take the course

The course is suitable for complete beginners aged 16+.
(Sailors aged 8 – 15 should join a Junior Sailing Course.)

Club membership is not required.

Course & safety information

The course starts with up to 3 students and 1 instructor per boat (using boats such as Wayfarers or Laser Bahia’s).

As the course progresses, the instructor will move from being with you in the boat to being in a powerboat nearby. Towards the end of the course there should be (weather permitting) the chance to try single hander boats as well.

All of our instructors have the relevant qualifications including safety and rescue training, DBS checks and first aid training.

After your course

Once you have learnt your sailing skills, we’re sure you’ll want to put them in to practice. We run weekly sailing groups such as Women on Water and an Improvers Group, plus there’s Novice Racing each month, too.

These groups are for Club members and we know that signing up to a year’s membership is a big commitment so we offer a trial 3 Month Membership for you try these groups and hire boats. This offer is exclusive to people who have completed our RYA courses and your instructor will give you details at the end of your course.

Various formats are available such as weekends or midweek to suit people’s different schedules.
All the course days start at 9.30am and finish at 4.00pm.

Taster Sessions

A great mini-session where the instructor will be in the boat with you and you’ll be able to help with the boat controls to get a feel for the fun of sailing.

Our 2 hour Taster Sessions are also strongly recommended for you to try sailing before committing to a course.

Refresher Days

Maybe you’ve already learnt to sail or have some previous experience that just needs refreshing.

Our Refresher Days recap all the essential sailing skills to bring you back up to speed to start sailing again.
