September news

As summer comes to a close we near the end of our training courses and sailing groups.  Winter training sessions and open meetings are making their welcome return after last year’s delays and disruption.

RACE DUTIES

Race duties have been mentioned a lot recently, yet the slow response to bookings is still a concern.   There are events of various sizes on nearly every weekend now and staff will be needed to manage those as well as the usual club management.

If you aren’t able to do the duty scheduled to you, please request a swap on DutyMan rather than leaving it blank.  The DutyMan page of the club website has information on using the system if you are unsure.

Y&J CHAMPS
Congratulations to all sailors who competed at our Championship event on Saturday. Brilliant sailing from everyone and it was great to see so many of our new Saturday Youth Club sailors having a go at racing for the first time. There was a clear improvement as the day progressed.
Taking home the trophies:
Under 12 – Jessica Powell, Topper
12 to 14 – Joe Rowe, Topper
15 to 18 – Iris Singleton, Laser
Top Topper – Joe Roe
Top Laser – Freddie Sunderland

A big thank you to all the helpers who made this event happen.

Y&J NSSCA
Congratulations to our Y&J sailors on winning the NSSCA best team prize for the P&B Northampton youth series.  Draycote joined Banbury, Northampton, Hollowell and Cransley as hosts, with each club holding a 1 day event with training in the morning and 3 races in the afternoons. Draycote’s excellent team efforts secured the best team trophy and many individual wins too.
Excellent series and great sailing.

DRAYCOTE ACADEMY

Some people may have seen the title of Draycote Academy on the website or the new branding around the club, and I am sure as the winter moves on it will become more obvious.

Draycote Academy is a dinghy race training program for our Draycote junior members lead by Steve Irish and Jess Lavery run over the winter months.  This year’s academy fleets are Optimists, Toppers, Lasers and 420s, with each fleet training 1 weekend a month over a 5 month period. The aim of the Academy is to provide the best race training without the need for our members to travel away from their home club.

We started this program last winter and even though Covid did it’s best to disrupt it we did manage to deliver a full program.  It was such a success that when we opened booking for this winter we filled 56 squad places in 3 days, have a waiting list, and enquiries for the 22/23 winter.

We are looking forward to see the Academy grow attracting new members and see the juniors sailing at Draycote achieve great things.

If you would like to know more about the Academy please come and talk to us for further information.
