Summer Is Coming!

posted in: News | 0

We are fast approaching the start of the 2018 summer season and there will be lots going on.  March 25th marks the start of British Summer Time and here are some more key dates:

Sunday 25th March – The first racing of the Summer Series.  Any changes to the format for this series will be announced before then after they have been agreed by the Committee at their meeting on 13th March
Monday 2nd April – RNLI Pursuit Race (see more info below)

Wednesday 4th April – Evening Racing begins at 6.30pm.

Sunday 1st April – Get Racing starts, and continues on the first Sunday of each month.

Friday 13th April – Friday Improvers, Owen’s Friday Fun Club and Youth & Junior groups all begin with a BBQ.

Monday 16th April – Women on Water sessions start

OOD Training

In readiness for the Summer Season, there will be OOD training at 7.30pm on Wednesday 28th March.

This year’s training will be a bit different to previous years. Rather than being a straight run through the OOD manual, it will focus on the practical issues of setting a course (with everyones group involved in setting a number of courses for particular conditions) and it will also incorporate a participative look at the racing rules

Youth & Junior Groups

There is an action-packed calendar this year for the Youth and & Junior section. Read all about the planned activities in the new calendar.

This year we are running two groups on Friday evenings.  There will be Race Training like last year, plus our new group ‘Owen’s Fun Club’ for children who want to improve their sailing skills through fun activities but don’t want to race.

Pursuit Races

Our bank holiday Pursuit Races start again on Easter Monday (2nd April) with the RNLI Lifeboat Pursuit.  They are all open to non-members (£10 entry fee – still free to Club members). All the details are in the new Club Racing Sailing Instructions which is on the website.

Well Done!
The Club would like to congratulate Eleanor Craig and Richard Botting for their achievements in the 2017/18 GJW Direct SailJuice Winter Series.
