Stand-Up Paddleboarding

Stand-Up Paddleboarding is a relaxing and fun way to enjoy Draycote Water with a choice of board hire or day tickets to get you out on the water

Hiring boards

1 hour board and kit hire:

  • Non-member – £20
  • Club member – Free

We have 6 boards and work on a first-come-first-served basis, there’s no pre-booking or reservations (group sessions can pre-book).

  • Available from April to late September
  • Subject to weather conditions
  • A safety briefing is given when hiring kit
  • Suitable for ages 12+ and under 16s must have an adult on site at all times

Bringing your own boards (Day Tickets)

  • Non-member day launch – £15
  • Club Member launch – Free

You must have your own 3rd party insurance (we recommend BSUPA membership which includes insurance).

Wetsuits and buoyancy aids must be worn and can be hired from the Waterside Reception if you don’t have your own.

Day tickets are per board for a maximum of 2 people, with one person on a board at a time. There’s no time limit on the water within our water opening times.

There’s no need to pre-book, just turn up and head to the Waterside Reception before launching.

Day tickets are available all year but are subject to weather conditions.

Weather conditions

  • Draycote Water is not protected by banks like a river or canal. The wind and waves gather strength across the water which can be deceiving from shore
  • The ideal conditions are 0-7 knots, from an easterly or southerly direction
    • Novice and junior paddlers should avoid winds over 5-7 knots
    • Stronger adults and experienced paddlers can go up to 10 knots, depending on direction
  • Avoid days with strong winds, especially if the direction has west in it e.g north-west etc
  • Check our live weather station and cameras to see the conditions (please note, these show shore conditions which may differ from central water conditions)
  • Staff make the final decision on whether the conditions are suitable for paddling

Safety information

  • Only specific SUP boards with a leash may be used. Sailboards, boards with seats, kayaks or canoes, or any other board similar to a SUP board, may not be used for Stand-Up Paddleboarding
  • The board’s leash must be worn at all times
  • Only one person is permitted on a SUP board at any one time
  • Wetsuits are advised at all times – the water temperature can be much colder than air temperature. Full length wetsuits or drysuits are compulsory from November to March.

Where to launch and paddle

We share our water with fisherman and host other water events so the following rules apply:

  • Check with staff in the Waterside Reception if there are any restrictions or a designated area for that day
  • Paddleboarding is not permitted within 30 metres of any shore except in front of the Club
  • The Club pontoons are only to be used by the committee and rescue boats
  • Paddlers must avoid the yellow-buoyed exclusion zones
