Harry Sayer’s Awarded

We are delighted to announce that our President since 1998, Harry Sayers, has been awarded an RYA Lifetime Achievement Award for the work he has done for our Club.

The nomination for Harry read:
Harry Sayers was a founder member of Draycote Water Sailing Club in 1969. He has been an active member since then and remains so, sailing classes like the GP14 and Flying Fifteen.

Harry acted as a GP 14 Fleet Captain and started on the Committee in the 1970s, rising to be Commodore for 1983-1985. He is one of only two people at the Club to have been Commodore twice, serving again in 1996-1998 when his skills were required to help the Club out of a difficult position.

After this second term as Commodore, Harry was elected President of the Club, a post which he still holds over 20 years later. In this capacity he has served the Club tirelessly, particularly offering assistance to new Commodores and Committees who have benefitted enormously from his years of experience.

In many Clubs, the role of President might be seen as an honorary one, but that is certainly not the case for Harry, for him it is an active duty. He attends virtually every Committee Meeting even though he does not have a vote and can only offer guidance and advice.

Harry’s commitment and contribution to the Club is summed up by the fact that he has attended every meeting with our current landlords, Severn Trent, and this covers a period of at least 30 years!

I am sure everyone will join us in feeling this award is unquestionably deserved and congratulate Harry on this fantastic achievement.
