Dinghy sailing has something for everyone, whether you’re just making your first steps into the wonderful world of sailing, looking for light wind cruising, or sailing a dinghy fast and getting into racing. It’s easy, great fun, thrilling and you will be up and sailing along in a matter of minutes.
All our courses follow the RYA syllabus – a tried and tested formula to get you on the water as quickly and as safely as possible but giving you time to ask questions and take in everything, including the fantastic location. The courses are a mix of land-based simulator sessions, on-water demos and personal coaching however the majority of the time is spent on the water sailing!
You do not need to be a Club member to take part in any of courses. We will provide the kit (dinghy, wet suit, buoyancy aid), and we just ask that you bring swimwear, footwear that will get wet and changing items.
For ages 8+
A 2 hour session where you can enjoy your first taste of sailing. We use larger sailing dinghy’s such as Wayfarers or Bahias, and with an instructor in the boat with you it’s a perfect time to get to grips with and experience the basics of sailing.
£60 for 1 person. £80 for 2, £100 for 3 people.
Following the RYA syllabus, this beginner course aims to take you from little or no sailing knowledge to being able to helm a boat in medium winds.
3-5 day Junior courses are run though school holidays.
Perfect for those who have completed a course or sailed before but feel a little rusty. Our instructor will go over all the essentials to help you get back out on the water.
Not suitable for those who haven’t sailed before.
On completion of an RYA course at Draycote (not taster sessions or refresher days), you can purchase a 3 month temporary membership to give you an opportunity to try the Club and facilities to continue developing your new skills. The trial membership includes access to our Adult Improver Sessions or Youth & Junior Clubs, boat hire at anytime or join in Club racing. Our instructors will speak to you about this offer at the end of your course.
The key to successful sailing is to keep practising the skills you have learnt from your RYA course. Adult Course attendees can join our Improver Sessions on Sundays through the summer. Although not formal coaching, an instructor will be on hand to answer questions and give advice.
We run a variety of groups specifically for our young members (aged 8 – 18) through the summer from April to mid-September, on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings.
Looking for an unusual gift for someone active and adventurous? Give them the opportunity to experience a new activity and learn new skills with one of our Gift Vouchers for either a Taster Session or Course. Click below to order and we’ll post it out to you for the special day.
We can host corporate team days and social groups (e.g. Women’s Institute, Scouts, Brownies) for group Sailing sessions, or a Mixed Watersport activity with Paddleboarding and/or Windsurfing too. Tailored to your organisation’s needs, the sessions are a fun and exhilarating way to try new sports, learn new skills and have fun together as a group.
