The Fireball is a two-person, single trapeze dinghy providing fast and exhilarating racing at Draycote.
We mostly sail White Winders – an epoxy foam sandwich hull devoid of wood that requires minimum maintenance. They are built up north and are made to last. 20 year old versions are still competitive and can give cheque book sailors in their new boats a run for their money.
This flat-bottomed scow is so stable on the water it can easily be sailed by a relative novice with little experience. It may not be perfectly sailed but you’ll be in good company here.
The rig is easily adjusted allowing the boat to be sailed by crews of all sizes and abilities. We have men, women & children of all ages in the fleet.
Races take place on Sundays; one in the morning, one in the afternoon with a break for lunch and general friendly banter – a competitive bunch but not seriously so, and usually off the water by 2.30pm. We enjoy our own Fleet start line, so it is not congested with other classes of boats who might get too close for comfort.
The fleet has a wide range of abilities and we would welcome any newcomers be they hotshots or newbies. You’ll find somebody of similar ability here. There is a fleet Fireball for hire so you can have a taste of Draycote Fireball sailing if you’d like to try before you buy.
If this sounds of interest to you, use the contact form below and we’ll get back to you. We can pair you with a helm or a crew, either for a race or just for a sail between races at lunchtime.
