It is with great sadness that we have to announce the passing of Peter Burfield, just a few weeks shy of his 87th birthday, Pete had not been well for quite a long while but until very recently he had enjoyed coming to the Club for a bite to eat and a chat with his friends
He was born in Manchester and had sailed his Miracle at Delph S.C before his work moved him to the Rugby area in the 1980’s. He joined Draycote’s growing Miracle Fleet and met his long term crew Barbara Green. Together they formed a competitive pair and were particularly formidable in light airs
Like many of the Draycote Miracles, back then, they did their share of visiting other venues for Open Meetings and Championship events. Their best result came at the Miracle Nationals at Brixham in 2005 when they finished 4th overall in a fleet of 39, beaten only by a couple of National Champions and an Area Champion.
Well Pete, our old friend, wherever you are, we all hope you have a warm steady breeze in your face with the tiller in one hand and in the other a tight mainsheet.
All are welcome to Peter’s funeral service which will be held at the Rainsbrook Crematorium, Rugby, at 1.30 pm on Wednesday 6th March, and afterwards to celebrate his life, at The Village hall, Church Lawford, Nr. Rugby.
