September newsletter

The Club has been very busy during the month of August with youth courses every week and many members taking the opportunity of having a “sailing holiday” at home, coming down with their families on a regular basis.

We are now looking forward to a busy month in September.  The highlight will be the Club Regatta & Bart’s Bash on Sunday 11th (more details below).  This event has taken over from the Interfleet Championships with the advantage that the racing on Sunday morning can still go towards individual fleet series results. There will also be open events on the other weekends. With the exception of the Topper National Series event, bringing up to 150 boats to the club, these should not cause much disruption to club sailing and racing. At a time when we are still recovering our financial stability, these events provide an important source of income to the club, so we ask your forbearance for any minor inconveniences.

Don’t forget our monthly Get Racing for those new to the racing scene takes place on the first Sunday of the month (4th September). Briefing on the patio at 10:30am, changed and rigged please.

Wednesday Evening Racing: The last two Wednesdays of the year are coming up (31st August and 7th September). Do remember that racing will start half an hour earlier at 6:30pm.

Club Regatta & Bart’s Bash
For the last 2 years the Club members have embraced Bart’s Bash and last year we successfully made it the Club Regatta as well. We have had lots of boats on the water, of all different standards, for a fun day. We are building on this for the 2016 event on Sunday 11th September. In the morning there will be the normal fleet starts, but this will be run as an average lap race for Bart’s Bash.  Please register your entry on the Bart’s Bash website (http://www.bartsbash.com/united-kingdom/draycote-water-sailing-club) and please raise funds for the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation – a great cause and the organisation behind Bart’s Bash. (Our date is a week before the “official” Bart’s Bash, but we have special permission to run it a week early). In the afternoon the Youth & Junior sailors will participate in Jon Hughes excellent sailing obstacle course.  Meanwhile the adults can compete in a special 60-minute Pursuit Race.  Datum for this will be at 1:45pm.  Datum will be the Miracle / Laser 4.7, with the Solos / Laser Radials starting after 3 minutes and Lasers after 4.5 minutes, so don’t expect a long wait till your start!Prizes will be awarded for the first adult and first junior in Bart’s Bash.  The Tom Pearson trophy will, once again, go to the highest placed Get Racing participant.  There will be a separate prize for the pursuit race. But don’t think it’s all about the winners.  The emphasis is on a fun day for all the family.  Please come and join us!

Topper National Series event
This will be a big event for us here at the Club with approximately 150 boats coming to race on the Saturday and Sunday.  There will be 2 lots of racing for the Topper 5.7’s and Topper 4.2’s so please note that Club Racing on the Sunday could be restricted.
