January News

In our last newsletter we mentioned that we would be furloughing staff. Dave, Matt and Rebecca are now on part-time furlough and are in just to keep things ticking over, while Mark is on full-time furlough.

We continue to keep up to date with the Government announcements and are ready to go as soon as restrictions are eased.

PURSUIT RACE & DRAYCOTE DOUBLE

Superb weekend and great to see so many people at the club.
Boxing Day was very well attended with 43 boats signed on to take part in the pursuit race and a good number of windsurfers down for a sail.
The breeze was SW and built during the day, the racing was won by Jess Lavery and Steve Irish in a 420 with fellow 420 sailors Imogen Wade and Dave Wade in second place with a sizeable gap to third place FF15.
As the wind built the windsurfers enjoyed an afternoon of mild(ish) conditions and a great breeze.

The Draycote Double
An off the cuff event for 2020 was held today, the format was a 2 handicap races.
2 starts were needed to cope with the 37 boats signed on and while the conditions were a little cold, the breeze was good and the 2 races were ran back to back and completed in 2 hours. The racing was very close and again the 420 Bow No 10 took the win, but this time with Millie Irish in the driving seat and Steve Irish as crew.

Women’s Changing Rooms

The builders, plasterers, plumbers & decorators have finished their parts, and next is the new flooring, drainage, showers and sinks, with a target of mid-February for completion.
We even found some old, possibly original, tiles behind the shower wall panels.

Y&J Topper Report

Draycote Water Sailing Club was very well represented at the recent 2020 Autumn/Winter Midlands Topper Series. Originally the Series was planned to be 4 events, with 3 to count, but due to Covid, this was reduced to a 2 event series.

Joe Rowe and Clem Middle represented Draycote in the 5.3 sail, with Imogen Green, Jess Powell, Felicity Angell and Poly McMullan opting to enter the series in the 4.2 Sail.

The Draycote Sailors did amazingly well with positions in the series as follows:
    Joe Rowe            6th
    Jess Powell         8th   (1st 4.2 Sail)
    Clem Middle        9th   (Under 13)
    Imogen Green     12th (2nd 4.2 Sail)
    Polly McMullan    20th
Felicity Angell      23rd (one event sailed)

Jess Powell won the 4.2 Sail Category, with Clem Middle taking the Under 13 Honours.

Also a huge thankyou to Topper Sailboats, Fernhurst Books, RYA,  Rooster and Overboard Bags for supporting our events, along with our continued ITCA sponsorship of GJW Direct Insurance, Harken & Optimum Time.

Looking forward to see the Draycote Topper Sailors at the Midlands Traveller 2021 Spring Series, with the final round planned to be at Draycote in May 2021.
