It is fantastic to see so many boats and windsurfers out on the water as summer suggests that it might be arriving – we have had great turnouts for the last 2 Sundays and for the Get Racing last Sunday!
Don’t forget that this Saturday is “Bring A Friend Day” – bring your friends to see the Club and have a sail – in your boat / sailboard or in the Club boats / boards (no charge). 11am to 4pm. Joining fee waived for anyone joining on the day!
There are two developments which need to be communicated to members:
- Men’s Changing Rooms
The much awaited renovation of the men’s changing rooms will start on Monday 15th June. It is estimated that this will last 6-8 weeks and during this time the facilities available will be reduced.
There will be space available to change at all times, with the work areas securely screened off, and showers should be available every weekend, but the space available will be reduced.
We apologise for any inconvenience, but are sure that (male) members appreciate that this work is long overdue and much needed.
- New Regulations
The Committee approved a new set of Regulations at its meeting on Tuesday 9th June. These are available here and will be posted on the Club Noticeboards.
The most significant element has come about as a result of our recent insurance renewal meetings. At these we discovered that the Club has only been insured for activity on the water for those aged 8 and above. We have negotiated this down to those aged 6 and above (except for commercial training which has always been, and remains, for those aged 8 and above), but the insurance company has said that it is impossible to lower this any further.
We cannot risk being uninsured for Club activities and so the Regulations now state: 4.3. No child under the age of 6 may participate in any on-the-water activity organised by the Club (including racing and youth club) or go on the water in a boat owned by the Club. Subject to the limitations of their own insurance, parents or guardians may take children under the age of 6, who are members, sailing in their own boats, but not as part of any activity organised by the Club.
The other changes are:
- We have included the RS Aero in the list of designated youth & junior boats (8.6)
- We have removed the restriction on members only being able to introduce guests on up to 4 days a year in the hope that this will encourage members to introduce more people to sailing and the Club. (The restriction on an individual only being a guest 4 times a year remains).
- We have stated that flying drones at the Club is a prohibited activity without the written permission of the Committee (and abiding by all CAA regulations) (14.4).
Welcome to summer, and good sailing!
The Committee
